Ford engines are hot, and everyone—even non-Ford guys—are talking about it. The small-block Ford is an awesome package that is made even more awesome by Ford Racing and aftermarket parts. It has continually gained popularity as a high-performance buildup, as a Ford In A Ford engine transplant and as a replacement performance engine for vehicles that were optioned as such but were less equipped when new. With all of this activity surrounding the small-block Ford engine, it is safe to say that it is quickly becoming the small block of choice.

Is it us, or does it seem that Jim Bell and his crew at Kenne Bell turn out hot trucks at truly astounding rates? In the past, they have built such a wide variety of trucks and SUVs that it’s hard to count them all. But when you consider all their other projects, such as their ’05 Mustang, the ’04 Focus and the ’04 Escape, it seems they have been busier than a one-armed paper hanger (whatever that means). One of their latest projects is this ’04 Ford F-150. As with most all of the other Kenne Bell projects, it started out as a new vehicle and was destined to be displayed in its SEMA booth.

The Ford 6.7L engine was outfitted with a completely new type of common rail system from the lift pump, high pressure fuel pump, injectors and fuel filters. What we have discovered (and so have many others at their expense) is that the fuel system components are very sensitive to water and debris, much more so than previous fuel system designs. More is always better, until it’s too much. The wastegate is responsible for keeping the turbo from continuously building boost until it pops. By allowing exhaust gas, the driving force of the turbocharger, to bypass the expeller (turbine), it will stop the impeller from sucking in air, creating boost.

The HushMat Wave Breaker sound deflecting pads are designed to eliminate the back wave created from your car’s speakers. Speakers create sound by simply moving air at specific frequencies. You are able to see speakers move the air when you see the mid-range cone of your speaker move when it is playing music. As the speaker creates sound going toward you, it also creates sound going backwards. This sound travels backwards and then typically bounces off the surface behind the speaker. When the waves hit that surface they then bounce back going toward to front of the speaker and you the listener. When the back wave bounces off the hard surface, it does not stay the same, but rather inverts.
