SNOW JOB

It seems that one of the most prevalent reasons a rodder chooses a certain vehicle to build frequently relates back to a childhood memory of a similar car. Often a single encounter will do it; other times it’s the older guy down the street with that cool car, or the fellow high-school student with the muscle car you couldn’t afford at the time. If it was not the family car, maybe an uncle had the one you dreamed about.

PRISTINE PRETENDERS

In a world often divided between Chevy and Ford lovers, these pristine pretenders bridge this gap with matching themes and paint schemes, leaving some to wonder and others to say, “Wow!”

Gear, Grit, & The Great Outdoors

Overland Expo Mountain West 2024 just wrapped up, and if you weren’t there, you missed out on one heck of a great weekend. Held from August 23-25 in Loveland, Colorado, this event was the ultimate gathering for anyone who lives and breathes off-road adventure. We’re talking thousands of overlanding die-hards, hundreds of exhibitors, and more gear than you could shake a winch at.

DOME ALONE

Dave Shuten is a time traveler. Traveling through time is what he likes to do best, but looking at his latest creation we can’t tell if his time travel machine is moving forward or back in time. Here’s the real dilemma: If you’re advancing a trend that ended in the early ’60s, are you traveling forward in time or back? One thing is certain: Dave Shuten loves to visit the golden era of show cars; after all, he’s the guy who did such an awesome job of cloning the Mysterion, an Ed Roth creation that was ultimately parted out and destroyed, only to live again through the efforts of Dave Shuten.

Star Quality Elky

This purple-flamed ’71 El Camino is but one of a number of outstanding street rods and street machines residing in movie executive Jim Brubaker’s impressive muscle car collection in Universal City, California. And believe us, it is really nice!

THE Z11 CHEVY DAYS

In 1962, General Motors’ performance car sales, namely those of Chevrolet and Pontiac, were steadily pulling away from the competition. On the dragstrip, the 409’s horsepower and torque were getting the job done, and so was that all-important driveline. The Borg-Warner T-10 four-speed transmission shifted perfectly, and the overall suspension, even slightly modified, allowed the car to launch without wheel-hop woes.

GLORIA

A wave of surreal sweetness swept over Tim Pasillas as he got off the phone. Auto Connection had just informed him that his car was waiting for him at the shop. “It’s actually here,” he thought to himself as he rushed down to the importer’s warehouse to pick up his long-awaited prize.

Turn About is Fair Play

Long before the automotive world was familiar with the name Chip Foose, he had already honed his skills working with his father, custom car builder Sam Foose, at Sam’s Goleta, California, shop since he was a mere seven years old. Armed with this hands-on knowledge of the mechanics of hot rods, Chip enrolled at the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.

DUPONT DEUCE

For many of us, the culmination of money and time spent on our street rods comes through experiences with our friends, whether it’s at the corner drive-in on the weekend or at a national event with thousands of people. It’s there we can share stories, laughs and the fruits of our labors, namely, the cars that bring us together in celebration of history, creativity and realized possibilities.

Show Car Buildoff: Painting Basics

When news of the Show Car Buildoff began circulating, the team at DuPont Hot Hues saw it as an excellent opportunity to not only become involved, but also to provide a sound platform to help all of us better understand what is involved in painting a car. The color selection is a process in and of itself, but having a better understanding of the characteristics of the materials used, how to use them and what is involved in using them is helpful as well.
