Sounding Out With Thunder Marine Products

We all know that cruising the water is great, and other than the short bursts of speed and family activities, the only thing that can make cruising in your family and performance boat better is to do it with the tunes blasting.

MTX Audio has been a leading manufacturer of car and home audio products for more than 30 years. The company has taken the audio knowledge it has learned over those years on land and applied it to the marine environment to help us boaters enjoy better sound on the water.
MTX Thunder Marine is a full line of marine audio products ranging from two-channel amplifiers to 12-inch subwoofers and everything in between to satisfy nearly every boater’s audio desires. Thunder Marine products aren’t simply car audio products painted white—they are purpose-built marine products designed to withstand the harsh marine environment while providing excellent sound quality.
Four models make up the Thunder Marine amplifier line. All four models are CEA 2006 certified, which assures they meet or exceed the power rating standard set by the Consumer Electronics Association. The TM452 is a two-channel model that is rated to deliver 75 watts per channel into 2-ohm loads and up to 450 watts of peak total power. The TM904 is a four-channel version also rated at 75 watts per channel into 2-ohm loads that can deliver up to 900 watts of peak total power. To power subwoofers, MTX Audio delivered the TM601D Class-D mono-block power amplifier rated to deliver 200 watts into a 2-ohm load or 600 watts of peak power. For a total system amplifier solution, the TM1805 is a five-channel amplifier that delivers 75 watts to the four main channels and 300 watts to the subwoofer channel. The TM1805 can deliver an astounding 1,800 watts of peak total power.
Each of the Thunder Marine amplifiers uses surface-mount technology to mount sensitive electrical components directly to the circuit board to ensure long-term reliability even with the vibrations and harsh impacts that are common in boats. The circuit boards use conformal coating to prevent corrosion from moisture and salt spray. Sealed covers keep the amplifier controls and speaker terminals dry and corrosion free. To further protect against corrosion, gold-plated terminals are used. These amplifiers are built to blast and built to last even in the harsh marine environment.
While amplifiers supply the power for any sound system, the speakers are what you actually listen to. MTX’s Thunder Marine line offers four different speaker configurations to cover all of our boating needs. The TM6502 and TM7702 are 6.5-inch and 7.7-inch coaxial two-way speakers for easy drop-in installation. For custom installation and improved sound quality, the TM6001 is a two-way component speaker system with a separate midrange/woofer and tweeter. Finally, to blast the tunes for our wakeboarders, the TM6502WB is a 6.5-inch coaxial two-way speaker designed to mount on a wakeboard tower, and is available in gloss white or as the TM6502WB-B in gloss black. While the TM6502 handles 50 watts continuous and 150 watts of peak power, the rest of the Thunder Marine speaker line handles 75 watts continuous and 225 watts of peak power.
Two subwoofers are offered to put that thump in your boat. Both the 10-inch TM1004 and the 12-inch TM1204 Thunder Marine subwoofers use 4-ohm single-voice coils and handle 200 watts continuous or 600 watts of peak power per sub. The subs are designed for infinite baffle installation, meaning they do not need dedicated enclosures, just a good, strong panel to mount them where the front and rear sides of the sub are isolated from each other. The infinite baffle design makes it much easier to install subs in your boat.
Thunder Marine speakers and subwoofers were designed to withstand and thrive in the marine environment. To protect the speakers, MTX includes removable gloss-white Centrex ASA plastic grilles. Electrical connections are made through gold-plated terminals to protect against corrosion along with stainless steel mounting hardware. The speaker cones are made from weather-resistant polypropylene to give years of musical bliss.
If you are in the market to make your family and performance boat sound better, you owe it to yourself to check out the Thunder Marine amplifiers, speakers and subwoofers from MTX Audio. Drop in to your local marine audio specialist and tell them your friends at TheAutoBuilder sent you.
