A new champion has emerged in the realm of roadsters, proudly wearing the crown as America’s Most Beautiful Roadster. The unveiling took place on a Sunday evening at the 2024 O’Reilly Auto Parts Grand National Roadster Show, where Beth Myers’ stunning 1932 Ford Phaeton claimed the coveted title. The victory not only secured a prestigious trophy but also came with a generous $12,500 check from ARP (Automotive Racing Products).

This triumph marks the third consecutive win for the skilled craftsmen at Roy Brizio Street Rods in South San Francisco, under the guidance of master builder Roy Brizio. The legacy of AMBR winners associated with Brizio continues to grow, including the 2023 champion crafted by Jack Chisenhall.

Beth Myers, a resident of the hot rod and classic car haven of Skippack, Pennsylvania, is no newcomer to the world of high-performance automobiles. Her husband Ross boasts an impressive and diverse collection of rods. Among Beth’s notable rides is another ’32 Phaeton crafted by Roy Brizio Street Rods,, a head-turner from a few years ago with its Washington Blue and black paint, full fenders, and wire wheels, radiating timeless elegance. This incarnation, featuring a black-and-flames design, without fenders and channeled, stands as a spirited counterpart to its polished predecessor.

The chassis, a masterpiece from Roy Brizio Street Rods, boasts fully-boxed ‘rails – a pinch in the front and a kick-up in the rear. Classic suspension components, including a Super Bell dropped tube axle and hairpins upfront, and Steve Moal torsion bars on both ends, pay homage to tradition. Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop’s Kinmont brakes provide reliable stopping power.

The body, a Chip Foose-designed Brookville Roadster 1932 Limited Edition Phaeton, underwent a meticulous transformation. Doors were shortened, rear quarters extended, and the exterior sheet metal at the rear gracefully curved, resembling the style of a Tudor sedan. Various alterations, including a three-inch reduction in windshield and top height, a cowl narrowed by an inch and a half, and a two-inch reduction in the grille, enhanced the overall aesthetic. The body underwent a six-inch channeling over the frame, while raised and radiused rear wheelwells accommodated 18-inch E.T. Indy wheels with knock-offs at the rear (16s up front), all wrapped in Coker Excelsior rubber. A vintage hot rod touch was added with a Moon tank.

The jet black paint was expertly applied by Darryl Hollenbeck of Vintage Color Studio, while the legendary Art Himsl, emerging from retirement, adorned the ride with searing flames. Classic pinstriping details were meticulously executed by Eric Reyes.

Beneath the hood, a Roush-powered engine roars to life – a Borla-injected 427 Ford with Dart block and heads, paired with a Tremec transmission and a Winters V8 quick-change at the rear. Sid Chavers Upholstery contributed to a custom interior, seamlessly blending contemporary and traditional elements, with black leather gracing the custom seats. A Bell four-spoke steering wheel commands a Vega box, and the chrome dash proudly displays an array of original Stewart-Warner gauges.

Beth Myers shared that the two-year journey of crafting this beauty was fueled by the goal of competing in the AMBR and, equally important, the desire to hit the open road. One goal has been triumphantly realized, and as the days, months, and years unfold, Beth Myers is set to accomplish the other – savoring the road in America’s Most Beautiful Roadster.
