There are different configurations of inlets and outlets for various uses.

Any boat that runs without a sea strainer runs the risk of ingesting sand, seaweed, and other variants of junk into the boat’s water system. Seawater-pump failures are pretty common for those without a strainer.

He didn’t want that to happen again, so he headed to Maveric Marine in Van Nuys, California, and ordered an installation of a Teague Custom Marine sea strainer. We followed along as the TCM sea strainer was installed to give you an idea of what’s involved.

Sealing compound is used to make sure the hose makes a solid connection.
The sealing compound is applied to the inside of the hose.

The hose that runs from the sea strainer to the seawater pump will need to be replaced with new hose (it’s not long enough after cutting). Here, Duffin figures out how much hose he needs.
A marker is used to identify where the hose will be cut.
