The 2026 Ridler Roundup
For more than 70 years, Detroit Autorama has been the proving ground where the world’s most ambitious custom cars, hot rods, and coachbuilt masterpieces step into the spotlight. What started back in 1953 as a humble fundraiser to build a drag strip has grown into a full-blown celebration of automotive craftsmanship, creativity, and hot rod culture. Today, the show packs the cavernous halls of Huntington Place with hundreds of cars, thousands of enthusiasts, and a level of competition that pushes builders to bring their absolute A-game.

Chasing Immortality: The 2026 AMBR Competition at the Grand National Roadster Show
The nine-foot AMBR trophy doesn’t celebrate excess. It rewards builders who understand proportion, restraint, and craftsmanship at the highest level—where every decision carries weight and every imperfection is amplified. Under the scrutiny of an expert judging panel, the 2026 AMBR contenders were evaluated on the fundamentals that have always defined America’s Most Beautiful Roadster: stance, line, finish, engineering, and an unshakable respect for roadster tradition. The margin between first and last place was razor thin, and the pressure showed in every detail.

The Cars That Defined HPX 2026
HPX Shop Car Challenge Debuts With Five-Builder Elite Showcase
HPX Shop Car Challenge winners pose with their awards during HPX 2026 in Charlotte. Alan Johnson of Matick Chevrolet (left) earned the Top Builder Award for the TC Kline-built C8 Corvette road racer, while Ron Mowen of Vengeance Racing (right) received the People’s Choice Award for the shop’s C6 Corvette build.
A Curated Look at Elite Shop Builds
The HPX Shop Car Challenge was built around a simple structure with a deliberate intent. A select group of elite shops was invited to participate, each contributing a recent customer build that represented their current level of work. The participating vehicles spanned multiple segments, including late-model performance, racing applications, European and JDM influence, and off-road capability. According to event officials, each build was placed prominently on the show floor to ensure direct visibility with the most influential audience in the East Coast performance industry.
“We reached out to a very short list of shops,” said Dr. Jamie Meyer, co-founder of the High Performance Expo HPX. “They are the ones whose work defines what is possible in this industry. The HPX Shop Car Challenge is central to what makes HPX different, and it reinforces our commitment to showcasing the future of the automotive aftermarket.”
That positioning framed the program as more than a display, instead presenting it as a curated cross-section of where the automotive aftermarket currently stands and where it is headed.
Shop Built Performance Cars on Full Display
Throughout the three-day event, each participating build remained on full display in a high-traffic position on the show floor, ensuring continuous exposure to manufacturers, race teams, distributors, retailers, media, and dedicated enthusiasts. Rather than isolating the cars as static exhibits, HPX placed them in the flow of the event itself, allowing interaction and conversation to become part of the experience.
Each vehicle effectively represented not only a completed project, but also the identity and reputation of the shop behind it. The shop built performance cars in the program reinforced how much modern fabrication, tuning, and design have evolved within today’s performance landscape.
Awards Recognize Builders and Audience Impact
At the conclusion of the event, two awards were presented to recognize standout builds within the program. The Top Builder Award was determined by a vote among the competing shops themselves, providing a peer-driven form of recognition from those who understand the demands of the work firsthand.
The People’s Choice Award was determined by HPX attendees through QR voting and the event’s mobile platform, reflecting broader audience response to the displayed builds. The car show awards structure reinforced both industry respect and enthusiast engagement as core parts of the program.
Industry Perspective From Killer Performance
Justin Keith, co-founder of Killer Performance and co-presenter of the HPX Shop Car Challenge, has been a vocal supporter of the program since its concept stage, which he previously discussed on the “Automotive Advantage” podcast.
“This is the competition I asked for,” Keith said. “Real customer builds from the best shops in the world, judged by the builders themselves. That is the only way to do it right.”
His comments reinforced the intent behind the program, positioning it as a builder-focused initiative designed to highlight real-world execution rather than staged competition within the performance car show landscape.
Car Club Collective Expands the HPX Experience
Alongside the HPX Shop Car Challenge, HPX also featured the Car Club Collective, a broader showcase of enthusiast-driven builds spanning classic muscle, modern performance, imports, off-road rigs, luxury customs, and exotics. The addition expanded the show’s footprint beyond professional shop work, reinforcing the connection between industry-level craftsmanship and the enthusiast community that continues to drive the automotive aftermarket forward.
2026 TOP BUILDER AWARD WINNER
2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z51
Builder: TC Kline Racing
Winner of the coveted Top Builder Award at HPX, this 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z51 proves that winning isn’t always about chasing the biggest horsepower numbers. Built by TC Kline Racing for World Racing League (WRL) endurance competition, the project focused on unlocking the Corvette’s exceptional chassis performance while meeting GP1 class power-to-weight regulations. The team installed a roll cage, refined the suspension, lowered the ride height, fitted larger Continental 200-treadwear tires, and added Verus Engineering aerodynamic components including a front splitter and massive rear wing. Weight reduction measures and a racing exhaust system further sharpened the car’s capabilities, while carefully calibrated tuning ensured all of the Corvette’s sophisticated electronics remained happy. After earning a podium finish in its very first eight-hour race, the car has continued to evolve with endurance-focused upgrades, including a faster refueling system and additional performance refinements. Making its HPX debut in a striking custom livery designed by legendary Corvette designer Tom Peters, this purpose-built racer showcases how the C8 Corvette can deliver world-class endurance racing performance at a fraction of the cost of traditional European competitors.
2026 PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD WINNER
2007 Chevrolet Corvette Z06
Builder: Vengeance Racing
Winner of the People’s Choice Award at HPX, this 2007 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is about as far from stock as a C6 can possibly get—built into a full-blown, record-shattering drag and half-mile weapon by Vengeance Racing. At its core sits a monster combination of a Noonan billet 438ci LS built by LME, force-fed by a custom twin turbo system with Hart 88mm turbochargers, producing a staggering 3,072 horsepower and 2,157 lb-ft of torque. The drivetrain is equally serious, featuring a 25.3 chassis by JSC Racing Fabrication, an RPM TH400 with lock-up, and an M&M converter built to survive brutal launches and high-speed pulls. Engine management is handled by a FuelTech FT600, while VP M1 methanol keeps the whole setup alive under extreme boost.
This Corvette isn’t just about dyno numbers—it’s a proven record holder, becoming the first Corvette to break 200 mph in the half-mile and setting the fastest manual-trans Corvette record at 204.6 mph. It’s currently dialed for competitive duty in Street Car Braggin’ Rights Extreme 28s and Limited Drag Radial competition, with ambitions of dipping into the 3-second range in the eighth mile. Built in memory of Randy Hunter, this machine represents the raw edge of modern drag racing—where engineering, aggression, and pure horsepower all collide at full throttle.

2020 Ford Mustang Drag Radial
Owner: Manny Buginga
Known simply as “Frank,” this 2020 Ford Mustang Drag Radial is a no-excuses, record-setting race car built for one thing—going faster than anything on a 275 radial tire. At its heart is a brutal combination of a ProCharger Gen 2 F-4X-140-1 supercharger feeding a ProLine Racing billet Hemi, all controlled with precision through a FuelTech ECU for maximum tunability under extreme boost. The chassis is purpose-built for consistency and speed, running aggressive 275 radials (later stepped up to 315s for additional record attempts), and backed by aerodynamic tweaks including NASCAR-style air flaps and a full-width parachute net. Finished in bold red with GT350-inspired graphics, it blends factory Mustang DNA with full competition intent.
This machine has already rewritten the record books, most notably at Rockingham Dragway in November 2025, where Manny Buginga laid down a stunning 3.481-second eighth-mile at 218 mph, backed by a razor-sharp .947 sixty-foot and a 5.682-second quarter-mile at 189 mph, both marking new benchmarks for the 275 radial class. Built to push the limits of radial tire racing, “Frank” represents the cutting edge of modern drag performance—where precision tuning and relentless horsepower meet at full throttle.
2011 Porsche Cayenne
Builder: Eurowise Performance
Owner: Mike Ngo
The 2011 Porsche Cayenne from Eurowise Performance takes the luxury SUV formula and flips it into a fully committed overland and off-road expedition platform. Built on the 958 chassis, this Cayenne sheds its suburban image with a full suite of purpose-driven upgrades, including a Gen 2 Baja front bumper, off-road rear bumper, skid plate protection, and a subframe drop and centering system to improve geometry under lift. A Gen 2 ExD suspension lift system and 18×9 EF mesh wheels give it serious trail stance, while lighting upgrades like Baja Designs S2 pods, a full light bar, and ditch lights turn night runs into daylight.
Function meets overland utility with a rear window MOLLE panel, V2 roof rack, and trail-ready accessories, all tied together with Eurowise’s signature attention to detail. Performance and character come through in the Trail Blazer bumper-exit exhaust, custom seating inserts, and interior touches like the Eurowise wood shift knob. Rugged, capable, and unmistakably purpose-built, this Cayenne shows how far the platform can be pushed when it’s reimagined for real-world adventure instead of pavement duty.
