Top Builds from the 2025 NSRA Street Rod Nationals Builder’s Showcase
The Street Rod Nationals returned to Louisville once again, marking its 31st year at the Kentucky Exposition Center—and its 56th overall. Four days filled with some of the best street rods, customs, and classics brought together everything from survivor sedans to full-tilt customs. With over 10,000 cars on the property and close to 70,000 people wandering the grounds, it’s not just a car show—it’s a rolling history lesson, a swap meet, a family reunion, and a street rodder pilgrimage all rolled into one.

Hidden Gems and Head-Turners at the Erwin Marine Sales Car Show
Think you have to attend a giant national event to see world-class builds? Think again. The Erwin Marine Sales Car Show was proof that some of the baddest rides around show up at the smallest gatherings. Tucked along Chattanooga’s scenic waterfront, this laid-back event delivered far more than anyone would expect from a Saturday morning cruise-in.

What makes the Dakota perfect is that you get all the attributes of a full-size pickup in a mid-size package. Even the styling of the new Dakota reminds you that this truck is definitely a member of the Dodge family. The grille is bold and bright, but with more angular shapes than on the full-size trucks. Large quad headlamps, a lower airdam and a giant front bumper say this truck means business. From the side, the Dakota features chiseled quarter panels that flare out to accommodate the standard 16-inch tires or optional 17s on SLT and Laramie versions. In back, the Dakota features “afterburner” taillamps and a sculpted tailgate that finishes the overall design treatment. All in all, it’s quite stylish.

Mission accomplished … Project “Tin Can” is a runner! We think it came out just right, and already it has become an amusement ride for the neighborhood.
The combination of the high-winding 283 flowing through 2-1/2-inch turbo mufflers, along with the unmistakable whine of the close-ratio Muncie four-speed provide an aural treat, while the acceleration from the 4.56:1 gears simply make the car a blast. In fact, we may to have to start charging admission.
Hysterical laughter can be heard from inside the car at every intersection as shocked onlookers gawk at Tin Can. The car is more fun to drive than a barrel of monkeys and attracts a huge amount of attention wherever it goes. Innocent passengers are forever changed and kids go crazy over it. If only one kid gets into cars because of seeing and hearing Project Tin Can, our job is done.
Who would have ever thought that our little 283 would have this much poop with only a shave and a haircut? Seriously, the combination of a new Melling solid-lifter 30-30 Duntov camshaft and lifters, vintage Edelbrock C4B intake manifold and a “loaner” Holley 650 double-pumper carburetor, along with the close-ratio M21 Muncie four-speed and 4.56s, make Tin Can feel like an honest 13-second car. We’ll let you know…
Although this is the final part to Project Tin Can, we will be using her for occasional testing of products and such. We would like to thank everyone who helped with the car during its buildup, especially Rick “D/G” Del Gado, who wrenched on the car from day one. We would also like to thank the many new friends we’ve made from readers who sent in letters and e-mails about Tin Can. Keep those cards and letters coming. Old-school rules!
