HARD CHARGER
We were talking to Devin Meucci when the topic came up about how difficult it is to find a ’69 Dodge Charger in Southern California, because most were gobbled up by the studio when “The Dukes of Hazzard” show was on television. I also mentioned that two of my friends were in charge of the transportation department of the show when the cars were being scrapped out, and described how they made the 383 and 440 engines available to members of my car club. Meucci said he and his brother watched the show religiously, and that’s when their love for Chargers began. Fortunately, in Washington state, Chargers were plentiful, so, in 1990 his brother bought a matching-numbers ’69 RT/SE. Two years later, Meucci purchased his own Charger and drove it in high school during his senior year, and to college after that.

’88 Blown GMC
In Hawaiian, “wiki wiki” can mean “hurry” or “fast,” depending on its use and interpretation.
New Zealand-born transplant Kim Greenwell’s Kahului, Maui-based black-on-black, 1988 GMC Sierra 1500 is definitely “wiki wiki” with its 500-plus-horsepower, Whipple-supercharged 383 small-block stroker. Greenwell’s basic intent was to build a stock-bodied hot rod pickup that he could use to advertise his automotive repair business, Kiwi Car Care. “I was looking for a nice, straight, rust-free truck that I could paint black,” says the Kahului automotive repair shop owner. “This truck was perfect. It was low mileage, and the price was right. But the brown color definitely had to go!” That’s not the only thing that got changed. “I kept the outside of the truck as stock as possible, but under the hood it’s a true sleeper.”

BAD BOWTIE
Some guys love their Chevys so much that they’ll go out of their way to flush out and record every bit of their cars’ histories. Such is the case with Gene Lavine of Excelsior Springs, Missouri. Lavine is 65 going on 35. A car guy since he was 16, he served his country as a jet fighter pilot and then went on to fly for the Federal Aviation Administration. He also has a Ph.D. and now is vice president of a company that manages collections for more than 30,000 businesses.

Holley LS West Fest 2024: A Haven for Automotive Enthusiasts
The Holley LS West Fest 2024 is a haven for automotive enthusiasts, where the asphalt becomes a stage for the most electrifying display of drifting mastery you’ve ever seen.
The Art of Drifting
Drifting, that high-octane symphony born from the streets of Japan, is a dynamic motorsport where drivers intentionally oversteer their cars, sending them into controlled slides through corners.
The Drift Challenge: Adrenaline Rush and Precision Ballet
The Drift Challenge is a spectacle that’s part adrenaline rush, part precision ballet. These drivers aren’t just racers, they’re artists, wielding their cars like brushes on a canvas, deliberately throwing them sideways through tight corners at breakneck speeds, the smoke from their tires painting the landscape with a vivid display of raw power and skill.
More Than Speed: Finesse and Style
But here’s the twist: it’s not just about speed; it’s about finesse, style, and the sheer audacity to defy gravity. It’s a primal urge, a seductive dance of controlled chaos, as these modern-day cowboys push the limits of traction and teeter on the edge of disaster.
The LS Engine: King of the Wild West
And in this wild west of automotive mayhem, the LS engine reigns supreme, its power and torque unleashing a symphony of tire-shredding, sideways action that’s as exhilarating as it is unpredictable.
A Showdown of Epic Proportions
As the engines roar and the tires screech, the crowd is spellbound, caught in the intoxicating frenzy of drifting euphoria. It’s a showdown of epic proportions, a clash of titans on a stage set for pure, unadulterated automotive bliss.
A Spectacle to Rival Hollywood
And when the smoke finally clears and the dust settles, one thing is crystal clear: the drifting competition at the Holley LS West Fest 2024 isn’t just a race; it’s a spectacle that rivals the drama of any Hollywood blockbuster.
