If you’ve ever hopped out of a classic pickup into a modern daily driver pickup, you have probably noticed the startling difference in noise and heat levels within and throughout the interior. This is because some time in the mid-’80s, pickups began receiving the same noise and heat control attention as auto manufacturers spent on cars, as they filled every nook and cranny with noise cancellation foam, sealant and padding. These insulations greatly helped cancel out noises and improved temperature control, as well as help dampen vibrations.
Older classic trucks are among the worst in all these areas. They squeak, they are noisy, and do little to control heat buildup inside the cab, especially around the floorboard. Since all these trucks were originally workhorses, not much attention was paid to these areas, but this problem is easily solved. All-In-One Conversions
The lines of ’55-’57 Chevys are almost sacrosanct. They haven’t been modified or changed over the years with very good results. There have been a couple of exceptions, but by and large, chopped tops, restyled fenders and other modifications that alter their original lines don’t come off looking real good. The problem is in the proportions. We’re not sure if it’s because the factory got them so perfect right out of the gate, or if it’s that most have been left alone over the last 50 years, so a chopped top looks strange. Whatever the reason, the classic “greenhouse” roofline, long fenders and slab sides all work very well together.

From garage-built classics to jaw-dropping pro-level builds, every truck brought its own flavor, and every corner of the show was buzzing with energy.

High-Octane Action on Track
The CK Truck Magazine Track Cruise let owners tear up the big oval after the awards, showing off the power and polish of their trucks. Meanwhile, the Brian Tooley Racing Friday Night Drags lit up the track with fierce grudge matches, tire-smoking burnouts, and heart-pounding launches that had fans on the edge of their seats. For those craving more thrills, the Classic Performance Products Autocross offered high-speed laps and ride-alongs with pro drivers, giving participants and spectators alike an interactive adrenaline rush.
